ABU SAYYAF RELEASES TWO FILIPINOS IN SULA PROVINCE

The al-Qaeda-linked Muslim terrorist group, Abu Sayaaf, released two Filipino traders in the mountain village of Patikul (Sula Province) earlier today (August 27) after a ransom was paid. The two captives had been held a week; family members paid 100,000 pesos (US$2,400) for their return.

COMMENT: Please note that the Indian expatriate reported in my August 23 posting ("Still No Word on Indian Expat, Reportedly Kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf") was also kidnapped from Patikul. It was also near Patikul where gunmen killed seven Filipino marines on July 28 ; two of the marines were beheaded.

Abu Sayyaf continues two hold two Americans of Filipino descent, a Filipino midwife, an Indian (described in my August 23 posting), a Malaysian and a Japanese national.
