AMERICAN EAGLE EMPLOYEE ARRESTED AT DFW FOR THEFT FROM PASSENGERS

An anonymous tip has led to the arrest of an American Eagle airline employee, Jose Alberto Peralta, 44, who is accused of stealing jewelry from passenger baggage at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. When arrested on August 26, Peralta had a silver bracelet, silver earrings, a gold heart-shaped diamond pendant and a new pair of Oakley Whisker sunglasses in his backpack.

COMMENT: Airport investigators have reportedly determined that the suspect had pawned 94 items over the last year, 93 of them jewelry, at an estimated value of $10,320. Authorities began investigating Thursday after receiving the tip that an employee was stealing.

This case is a good example to remind everyone to leave NO valuables whatsoever in checked luggage. If at all possible, expensive jewelry should be photographed and insured against theft and loss.

I could also go on and on about the practices of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as it relates to theft from luggage, but I'll save that for another day later this month.
