FRENCH DIPLOMAT ATTACKED BY SHARK IN PORT MORESBY

Thomas Viot, 30, a French diplomat working for the European Union (EU) in Papua New Guinea (PNG) was airlifted to Australia earlier today after a shark attacked him when he was kite-surfing off Port Moresby. It is believed that Viot was attacked by a two-meter-long (6.5 feet) tiger shark.

COMMENT: The EU economist has been in PNG for 2.5 years and said there were always sharks at the reef, but he did not see the shark before it attacked. Fortunately for Viot, he was able to kite-surf into shore with his injuries where he was stabilized until he could be evacuated to Brisbane for emergency surgery.
