2 Spanish Aid Workers, Italian Kidnapped from Refugee Camp in Algeria

Details are very sketchy, but the Spanish Foreign Ministry reported earlier today (October 23) that two of its aid workers and an Italian citizen have been kidnapped from a refugee camp in Algeria. A spokesman said that an unidentified group of assailants entered the Rabuni camp near Tindouf, which houses Western Saharan long-term refugees, and seized the foreigners.

COMMENT: At least one of the three kidnap victims was believed to have been injured during the kidnapping. As our regular readers are well aware, Spain has already had two female aid workers kidnapped in Kenya earlier this month, who were subsequently taken to Somalia. The abduction of these aid workers led Kenya to deploy its forces into Somalia last weekend.

This event will be updated as information becomes available.
