Russian Expat Robbed, Assaulted in Bulgaria After Leaving Casino

An unnamed Russian expatriate, 32, living in Varna (Bulgaria) was beaten and robbed of 4000 leva (US$2,846) and a mobile phone after leaving a casino on Friday (October 14). The Russian was converged on by three men wielding clubs after he had been playing at an all-night casino.

COMMENT: As we go to press with this posting, the victim remains in serious condition at St. Anna Hospital. Fortunately, the three assailants have been arrested. All three had previous police records. Also, the money taken from the expat has been recovered thanks to the efforts of local police.

Casino players are urged to keep in mind that criminals frequently linger in casinos, looking for big winners, only to follow them as they walk to their car, home or hotel and prey upon their good luck. It is always best for big winners to take a taxi from a casino in order to avert being robbed or have friends meet them at the casino and travel to a safe location together.
