Update: Hit-and-Run Vehicle Fragments Found in Death of American Woman, 23

As a follow-up to my earlier posting on the October 2 hit-and-run death of American tour guide, Allison Owens, 23, of Columbus, OH, in the Tuscan town San Giovanni Valdarno, the autopsy of Ms. Owens' body has revealed that she was killed by an automobile. Her body was found in a roadside canal in the Italian town.

According to police, car fragments, possibly from a dark-colored Volvo, were found near the body; Carabinieri paramilitary police investigators are checking nearby auto body shops for potential leads.

COMMENT: San Giovanni Valdarno's mayor has appealed to citizens to report anything they might have seen in hopes of finding the driver or the vehicle that killed Ms. Owens. A bouquet of white carnations was tied to the guardrail which runs along the stretch of road where Owens was killed. Police investigation has theorized that Ms. Owens may have been wearing ear-buds connected to an iPod when she was hit, suggesting that she did not hear or see the approaching vehicle that hit her.
