Traveler's Alert: Warsaw Airport Closed Until 0400, November 3

Air traffic turmoil in Poland began on Tuesday (November 1) on when an airliner from the US made an emergency landing in Warsaw after trouble opening its landing gear. Earlier today (November 2), thick fog delayed takeoffs at Poland's second largest airport in the southern city of Krakow -- which operates less than 100 planes daily -- and forced at least one plane to seek an alternative landing site.

Two smaller airports in central and western parts of the country were shut or running only limited operations in the morning because of weather conditions, officials said, but were later reopened.

COMMENT: In Warsaw, NONE of the 230 aboard the flight originating in the US were hurt, but the airport has been closed since. According to a Polish government spokesperson, Warsaw will be closed until 0400, Thursday, November 3, local time. All other airports should be functioning today.
