British Tourist Suspected of Shooting Himself at Pattaya Shooting Range

Strangely, police in Pattaya [Thailand] were called to a local shooting range on Sunday (January 15) to investigate the death of a British tourist, 43, who according to CCTV tapes at the range, committed suicide with a .357 magnum revolver, although an autopsy and witness interviews are not as yet complete.

COMMENT: Little facts are available at this time, but our readers will be updated as information becomes available.

It is presumed that being a foreigner, the firearm did not belong to the victim; presumably it was rented from the range. It is never a good idea for commercial shooting ranges to rent firearms to individuals, for fear that they might use a firearm owned by the range to commit suicide. On the other hand, it is good that the range had CCTV cameras in place.

Although I lived and worked in Thailand for several years, it seems peculiar that a foreign tourist would seek out a commercial range to frequent, particularly in Pattaya. It is best that we wait for further details.
