Update: Canadian Woman, 37, Recovering from Severe Beating in Hotel in Mazatlan

As a follow-up on my last posting on the severe beating that Calgary resident Sheila Nabb, 37, sustained in a luxury hotel in Mazatlan last weekend, Sinaloa Governor Mario Lopez Valdez visited Nabb in the hospital on Tuesday (January 24).

Since my last filing, Nabb has been brought out of a medically-induced coma and has begun to show encouraging signs of recovery. She reportedly recognizes her husband, Andrew, and her father-in-law, and has been responsive to questions. Ms. Nabb is also scheduled to undergo facial reconstructive surgery.

COMMENT: Nabb, a 37-year-old office manager in Calgary, and her husband were vacationing in Mazatlan, when Nabb was found beaten and bloodied in a hotel elevator. Few details of Nabb's assault have been released, yet one can only hope that between Mexican and Canadian authorities, useful leads are developed in the case.
