Update: Missing Rises to 29 in Cruise-Ship Running Aground

Strangely, the Italian Coast Guard made an announcement late today (January 16) that six people have died and 29 people (25 passengers and four crew members) are still missing from the Costa Concordia, the latter of which is a much greater number than originally reported. At least 10 German nationals and two Americans are among the missing.

COMMENT: The ship's owner accused the jailed captain of causing the disaster and in making unapproved, unauthorized maneuver" to divert the vessel from its programmed course. A Coast Guard official also said that there was "a glimmer of hope" there could be survivors on parts of the vast cruise liner that have yet to be searched.
