German Couple, Child Drown When Touring Submarine Runs Aground in Egypt

Tragically, three German tourists, comprised of a couple and their nine-year-old son, drowned earlier today (February 9), when their touring submarine struck a coral reef and sunk in the Red Sea close to the seashore of the coastal resort town of Hurghada.

COMMENT: Thirteen other tourists from various countries were successfully rescued from the sunken vessel. After the submarine ran aground, the viewing windows shattered, causing the craft to fill completely with water. Four of the rescued tourists were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
