Kristel Johanson, 22, a Norwegian tourist, who was on a morning tour with eight other people, got out of the tour vehicle to assist their tour guide in feeding the cheetahs, when one of the cats scratched her on her upper-right thigh, tearing her walking shorts and causing the wound to superficially bleed.
The incident occurred on February 4 at the Harnas game farm, situated some 112 kilometers east of Gobabis in the Omaheke Region. The farm tames wildlife for conservation and rehabilitation purposes.
COMMENT: After Johanson's wound was treated, the tour guide emphasized to all members of the tour that the woman was attacked because she turned her back on a hungry cheetah.
As a matter of interest, when I visited a number of game parks in Kenya a few years ago, we saw many Cheetahs; the first thing our guide told us is to always back way from them when leaving, as no matter how tame, they remain to be wild animals who can always be unpredictable.
