Update: Cause of Death Elusive in Death of Australian, Dutch Couple on Laos

According to The Herald Sun, and as a follow-up to my earlier postings, Australian Alexander Lee, 22, of Yarraville, and Dutch national Rianne Brouwer, 18, who were found to be dead in their hotel room in Nongkio Village, in the central province of Luang Prabang, on Tuesday (February 7).

The two were reportedly found in an embrace with unidentified drugs found in close proximity to their bodies. Yet, it is hoped that pathological studies will shed more light on how the couple died in coming days.

In the meantime, their respective families are anxious to repatriate their remains.

COMMENT: From all indications, there was no evidence of external injures to the couple; they reportedly had been dead for several days when found.

Lee is the third Australian to die in Laos in the past month, although the other two were tourists river tubing in the Vang Vieng area.

This report will be updated as information becomes available.
