Update: Muslim Leader in Philiipines Implies that Abu Sayyaf May Kill Hostages

According to Von Al Haq, spokesman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), implied to the media on Saturday (February 4) that members of Abu Sayyaf might well might resort to killing their foreign hostages, in retaliation for the February 2 air strike that left 15 dead, including three key leaders of Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

COMMENT: It should also be noted that Warren Rodwell, 53, an Australian national, who has been the subject of many of my postings, was initially abducted by professional kidnappers who later turned over Rodwell to the Abu Sayyaf, operating in the southern province of Basilan.

MILF has had a cease-fire with the government of the Philippines for a number of years, although the group persists in their efforts to seek autonomy from the central government. The cease-fire was brokered by the government of Malaysia.
