Egypt: Russian Tourist, 25, Killed During Boating Accident

Yulia Malysheva, 25, a Russian tourist, was killed earlier today (March 2) while vacationing at the Regency Plaza Aqua Park & ​​Spa Resort in Sharm el-Sheikh with her husband, daughter and mother. The young woman died while riding an inflatable tablet which was being towed by a speedboat.

At one juncture during the ride, Ms. Malysheva hit her head on a metal pontoon as the speed boat was taking a sharp turn.

The woman's husband, Dimitry, who rode with her, was also injured in the accident. He has since been admitted to a local hospital after suffering a leg fracture.

COMMENT: Tourists and travelers are cautioned that when visiting developing countries, they should keep in mind that recreational sports activities are also developing, and may not be as safe as one might expect from similar activities back home.

Consequently, it is good to solicit the advice of others and perhaps one's embassy at your destination.
