On Tuesday (October 9) an unidentified person or persons stole 65,000 rupees (US$1,229), two mobile phones, a camera and other valuables from the locked stowage compartment on a motor-scooter driven by a solo tourist near the Aguada Fort in Calangute.
Calangute, population 16,000, situated in North Goa, in the state of Goa, is known for its beautiful beaches.
COMMENT: The naïve tourist, an Indian national, simply locked his valuables in the bike’s storage unit, not realizing that little force would be necessary to break into the compartment.
It is unknown what state the victim resides in, but being from India he should have realized the extreme level of larceny that prevails in his country.
It would have been far safer for the crime victim to have carried his valuables in a backpack, than to leave such valuables in a poorly secured storage space.
