Colombia: Kidnapped Banana Executive Rescued by Security Forces in Santa Marta

Colombian security forces successfully and safely rescued Carlos Francisco Peréz, a local banana executive in the city of Santa Marta, on Colombia's northern Caribbean coast on Friday (November 23).

Peréz, the son of a former Magdalena provincial governor, was abducted by three heavily armed men on November 15.

COMMENT: It should be noted that Peréz is the fourth person kidnapped in the Department of Magdalena in the last two years.

Considering that foreigners often bring a much larger ransom than do Colombians, foreigners are cautioned to pay attention to their personal security awareness, particularly when traveling in rural departments where ransom kidnapping has occurred in the past.
