Honduras: Journalist Shot, Killed For Resisting Armed Robbery of His Laptop in Capital

According to EFE, a Honduran journalist, 35, was shot and killed in La Hoya, in the capital of Tegucigalpa on Thursday (November 8), when he resisted assailants who wanted his laptop computer, which he was carrying at the time.

COMMENT: It is a common tactic throughout Latin America for criminals to roam the streets on motorcycles in search of vulnerable targets, particularly those who carry items of valuable.

For those who must carry a laptop because of their work, it is strongly suggested that all data be backed up regularly, thus softening the impact of an armed robbery.

As I continue to suggest to expats and residents alike, particularly those living in developing countries, NEVER resist an armed robbery, as no amount of personal property is worth your life.

The victim in this case was a member of the Honduras Biblical Society and worked for several years at Estereo Luz radio in Tegucigalpa.

Honduras’s 2011 homicide rate of 92 murders per 100,000 people renders Honduras as the most dangerous country in the world.
