California: Hong Kong Tourist, 28, Assaulted, Killed for Cash in West Covina, Victim's Brother Injured

from was physically assaulted and killed in a robbery in in the 100 block of Barranca Avenue around 1430 hours in West Covina on Friday (February 1).

Police said the 28-year-old decedent and his brother had stopped to eat at a restaurant at the Eastland Shopping Center. Shortly thereafter, the two borothers walked back to their car when two assailants assaulted and robbed them of cash.

COMMENT:  Two men were seen running to a waiting four-door vehicle that was also in the parking lot. The vehicle was seen speeding away. Investigators will attempt to determine whether any surveillance cameras in the area captured the attack.

It is unknown whether the two victims resisted the robbery in any way, but as I have consistently urged in the past, regardless of venue, it is essential that crime victims NOT RESIST.

The West Covina Police Department is asking for the public's help. Anyone who was in the area of the restaurants there--Johnny Carino's, Chipotle, Islands and Ono Hawaiian-- between 1400 and 143o, is asked to call the West Covina Police Department at (626) 939-8557.
