Alaska: PenAir Employee Facing Felony Charges for Computer Theft

Nasser Gamueda, 23, a ramp agent for PenAir ( in Unalaska, AK, is facing felony charges for allegedly stealing packages flown in from Anchorage. Gamueda is accused of intercepting a laptop computer that was being shipped to the town on a cargo flight.

The person who purchased the computer online called police when tracking data revealed that the package vanished after leaving Anchorage, at which point the computer manufacturer helped look into the matter.

The crime was easier to identify and locate once the computer was turned on, connected and activated through the registration process. Subsequently, through search warrants executed by Alaska's Department of Public Safety ( with the assistance of a number of shippers, the investigation led to a search of  Gamueda's home where at least one of the stolen laptops was discovered. 

Other leads are also being pursued concerning upwards of five local residents who had ordered computers on-line in recent months and had not received them.

COMMENT: DPS advises that anyone who ordered a computer or the last six months and has not received their order should contact DPS immediately. DPS is additionally reaching out to the public to determine whether anyone has purchased computers from Gamueda, who was arrested on April 30 and released on bail.

Consumers are reminded to always insist that high-value orders are insured by the shipper and insist in obtaining a tracking number from the shipper so that the order can be followed as it works it way to the addressee.

Unalaska, a city in the Aleutians West Census Area of the Unorganized Borough of the US state of Alaska, is located on Unalaska Island and neighboring Amaknak Island in the Aleutian Islands off mainland Alaska. The population is approximately 4,376.  

Almost all of the community's port facilities are on Amaknak Island, better known as Dutch Harbor or just "Dutch." It is the largest fisheries port in the US by volume caught. It includes Dutch Harbor Naval Operating Base and Fort Mears, US Army, a US National Historic Landmark.
