Cayman Islands: American Tourist, 75, Succumbs, Dies While Snorkeling

According to, an American tourist, 75, who was staying at the Brac Reef Resort in the Caymans, was pronounced dead on Friday (May 3) while he and his wife were snorkeling in the vicinity of Fosters Road, Stake Bay area where he collapsed upon reaching shore.

COMMENT: The American was promptly transported to  Faith Hospital by ambulance, but had already passed on

Although cardiovascular disease may well have been the cause of the tourist's death, one can only hope that the family has an autopsy performed to determine the actual cause of death.

As I have urged many times, I strongly suggest that all foreign travelers over the age of 50 have their medical provider conduct a thorough physical examination, to determine what level of physical activity they are capable of performing without dramatically jeopardizing their health.
