Spain: British Tourist, 42, Testifies How She Was Gang-Raped in Costa del Sol

According to The Daily Mail, a British woman, now 42, broke down in tears as she told a Spanish court in Malaga this week how she was allegedly gang-raped by three assailants at knife-point who offered her a ride home from a Spanish nightclub on November 4, 2001.

The victim, age 30 at the time of the gang-rape, testified that the three men raped her in an isolated area after threatening her with a knife and drugging her with an immobilizing substance in the Costa del Sol resort of Benalmádena.

The victim testified in the one-day trial via video-link from a court in the UK.

The woman emphasized that after she had been threatened with the knife and drugged, she was unable to be anything but compliant. After they were finished with her, they also took her shoes.

COMMENT: The attack occurred during the early morning hours of November 4, after the victim had become separated from her friends. She later identified her three assailants from surveillance camera footage and a DNA sample.

If convicted, all three rapists could face a minimum of 26 years on prison. The gang-rape took place in a Seat Ibiza.

State prosecutor María Teresa Verdugo has asked the court to convict two of the defendants on three charges of rape and a single charge of wounding and sentence them each to 31 years in jail.

The judge said that sentencing will be reserved until a later date.

This report will be updated as new information becomes available.
