India: Tourist, 21, Gang-Raped by Two Different Groups of Men in Puducherry on 12/24

According to http://www.ndtv.com, a 21-year-old tourist in Puducherry was raped by least six men in two separate groups on Christmas Eve (December 24). She is now recovering in a local hospital.

Of fifteen suspects who either raped the victim or enabled the two attacks, twelve are now in police custody.

The woman was first abducted by three men while sightseeing with friends in Karaikal, a port city in Puducherry. After raping her, they released her.

COMMENT: Tragically, the victim called for help, only to be set upon by a group of seven men who abducted her and sexually assaulted her. They allegedly raped her six times.

The two groups of men gang-raped the young woman her for over three hours.

The victim's friends finally found her lying outdoors near the lodge where they had rented a room.

During 2013, the number of Indian and foreign women who have been raped or gang-raped in India have been too numerous to list. During the year, single women traveling to India has dropped by 35%.

The circumstances under which the victim described above was gang-raped twice in the same day was not adequately explained by http://www.ndtv.com.

In light of the unprecedented attack on the above victim, the 2013 statistic of single foreign women NOT traveling to India is surely to rise further.

This report will be updated as new information becomes available.
