Israel: US-Israeli Inmate Shot, Killed After Wounding Three Prison Guards with Smuggled Gun

According to Reuters, Israeli police shot and killed a US-Israeli inmate on Sunday (February 23) after he wounded three prison guards near Tel Aviv.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Samuel Sheinbein, in his early-30s, who was serving a 24-year sentence for a 1997 Maryland murder, had shot the three security officers, leaving one critically injured.
Local media said Sheinbein had barricaded himself inside his cell.
COMMENT: It is unclear as to how the inmate came to possess a loaded firearm, but knowing the Israeli security forces as I do, it is expected that they will quickly trace the gun to the source and prosecute that person to the hilt.
A Tel Aviv court in 1999 found Sheinbein guilty of the slaying and dismemberment of Alfredo Enrique Tello, Jr. in Maryland's Montgomery County.
Sheinbein went on trial in Israel after having fled there and winning the protection of Israel's Supreme Court against a US extradition request based on its determination that Sheinbein had inherited Israeli citizenship from his father.
