Florida: German Tourist, 42, Bitten by Unidentified Shark on the Right Foot

According to Florida Today, an unidentified shark bit a German tourist, 42, on the right foot earlier today (April 23) at Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach, said Jeff Scabarozi, Brevard County Ocean Rescue chief.

The shark attack occurred at approximately 1545 hours. Lifeguards saw the victim struggling in the water and then pulled him to shore.

COMMENT: Considering that shark attacks occur at least monthly somewhere around the globe, it seems appropriate that organizations that database and follow shark attacks publicize and distribute an multilingual online guide on how to avoid shark attacks.

The victim "had some good puncture wounds and lacerations on the foot," Scabarozi said.

Lifeguards and bystanders helped wrap the injured man's injured foot in an effort to control the bleeding as Brevard County Fire Rescue and Cocoa Beach Fire Department personnel reported to the scene.

The victim was transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital.

Scabarozi said lifeguards flew double-red flags and closed the Shepard Park beach to swimmers after the attack.
