New Zealand: Mexican Crime Victim Robbed at Gunpoint Says He Will Continue to Hitchhike

According to The New Zealand Herald, three assailants will appear in Gisborne District Court over an armed hold-up of a Mexican tourist, 30, in Hawkes Bay yesterday (May 21).

Even though the hitchhiker lost all of his possessions when he was robbed after being picked up on State Highway 2 at the Napier-Taupo Road by three men.

After the unidentified victim was left on the side of the highway less his worldly possessions, he has insisted that he will continue to hitchhike.

COMMENT: It has often been said that to replicate behavior with the expectation of having different results is defined as "insanity."

It should be noted that many foreign tourists routinely hitchhike in New Zealand, despite the fact that foreigners have been raped, robbed and murdered in recent years.

It is truly uncanny as to why tourists continue to "roll the dice," thinking to save money, when that should be the least of their concerns.

Police from Wairoa and Gisborne searched two Raupunga properties this morning (May 22) and arrested three males aged 17, 19 and 22.

The defendants have been charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in Gisborne District Court tomorrow (May 23).

Police also found the vehicle used in the robbery as well as some of the tourist's property.

Sergeant Mike O'Brien said there were still several items belonging to the tourist that had not been found.

Those having any information relative to the robbery are urged to contact New Zealand police.
