Sri Lanka: Japanese Tourist Robbed of 110,000 Yen, 4,000 from Rickshaw Driver

According to The Nation, a Japanese woman tourist was robbed by her rickshaw driver of 110,000 Yen (US$1,077) and 4,000 Sri Lankan currency (US$116.00) on June 6, while touring Kelaniya.

COMMENT: Although Fort Police have taken the rickshaw driver into custody, who will be produced before a local magistrate today (June 12), the unfortunate victim has lost a considerable amount by not trusting rickshaw drivers, who reportedly have larceny flowing through their veins.

P-L-E-A-S-E:

My suggestion to ALL travelers, is don't carry any more than the equivalent of US$100 on your person, particularly with ATMs and cash machines so readily available.

A three-wheeler driver who allegedly robbed a female Japanese tourist of 110, 000 Japanese Yen and 4000 Sri Lankan Rupees in Kelaniya was arrested by Fort Police yesterday. The robbery had taken place on June 6 while the tourist was traveling in the suspect's three-wheeler.
