According to http://www.malaysiandigest.com, Malaysian police constable Zakiah Aleip, 26, called his wife, Sharifah Erna Berson, on Sunday night (July 13), less than 24 hours after he was kidnapped from a resort island in Semporna, Sabah, by six heavily armed gunmen, who had first murdered another police officer.
Obviously instructed by his captors to say little, the constable only said that "he with other people" and kept the call very short, so that it could not be traced.
The motive of Zakiah’s kidnapping has yet to be established as his kidnappers have yet to make their demand.
The couple have a four-month-old son.
Footage from the resort’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording showed how the armed gunmen, decked in military fatigues, moved swiftly from the helipad towards the dining hall where Zakiah and executed Corporal Abd Rajah Jamuan, 36, were situated.
All six gunmen were captured on surveillance cameras, yet strangely, the two who were not masked, who seemed to be directing the operation, were unmasked.
From all indications the two boats arrived from the southern Philippines.
COMMENT: In the attack on the Mabul Water Bungalows Resort on Saturday night (July 12), Rajah was killed while his partner, Zakiah, was abducted by the gunmen.
In another corner of Semporna yesterday morning, emotions ran high when Rajah was laid to rest at the Kampung Bubul Muslim cemetery.
Following the kidnapping of a 59-year-old Taiwanese tourist, Chang An Wei, from Pom Pom island off Sabah on November 15, 2013, Federal police internal security and public order director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid said police had mobilized a battalion of General Operations Force, which would be rotated monthly, as well as UTK and VAT 69 commandos.
Sources said the Eastern Sabah Security Command are contemplating releasing photographs of the suspects from surveillance cameras.
This report will be updated until such time as Constable Zakiah has been rescued.
