Sri Lanka: Update--Court in Colombo to Issue Ruling in Murder of Briton, Gang-Rape of Russian Girlfriend on July 18

According to the below link, a decision will be rendered by the High Court in Colombo in connection with the brutal murder of Briton Khuram Shaikh and the gang-rape of his Russian girlfriend on Christmas Eve 2011.

The High Court's decision will be transmitted at 0800 hours on Friday (July 18), which is Pacific Time on the US West Coast.

COMMENT: Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk has visited Sri Lanka on a number of occasions to press ministers to speed up the legal process and bring the case to court after progress had repeatedly stalled.

MP Danczuk has previously expressed concerns that the investigation was subject to political interference because the main suspect is a local politician with close ties to President Rajapaksa.

Both Prince Charles and the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, have also pressed the Sri Lankan authorities to investigate the case more thoroughly and raised the case directly with President Rajapaksa at last year’s Commonwealth Heads of State meeting in Colombo:
