Tip of the Day: Do You Want to Save Money While Talking Abroad to Friends, Family, No Matter Where You Are?

I'll be very honest with you!

I find the notion of lining the pockets of cellular wireless providers utterly repugnant, particularly in the US, which seems to have the worst wireless service on the PLANET!

Particularly for those living in the US, which I've already acknowledged has very crappy cellular service, there are still options in how to not make other people rich.

My first suggestion is to NOT leave your regular mobile at home, but to take it with you with its charger so you can use it to call your contacts no matter where you are in the world.

Now, a bit of a game-changer. PLEASE don't use your US-based mobile while abroad. Use it ONLY as a directory for your contacts.

Better yet, print off on your computer at home all of your CONTACTS so that you have access to them.

Again, Please don't use your home-based mobile until you read my suggestion below:

If you purchase an UNLOCKED, QUAD-BAND MOBILE that is GSM-based, you will be able to use your unlocked, quad-band mobile virtually in any country

Unlocked is defined as a wireless mobile that is not linked to ANY wireless provider.

I recently purchased a GSM-based, quad-band, unlocked mobile iPhone 4G with 32gb of memory for $289.00, although models with fewer bells and whistles were available at the $50 range.

My unlocked, quad-band GSM mobile functions at: 850mhz, 900mhz, 1800mhz and 1900mhz.

Dual-SIM refers to your ability to use your mobile in your home country AND in the country you're traveling in.
