Yemen: Update--Briton Released After 5 Months in Captivity by Group Linked to al-Qaeda

According to The Associated Press, a Briton, Mike Harvey, age unknown, kidnapped in Yemen after five months in captivity, as reportedly been released, according to sources in London.

COMMENT: Mike Harvey was kidnapped in the capital of Sanaa'a on February 12, after leaving an educational institution.

Harvey "is being supported by staff at the British Embassy and will be reunited with his family soon," a Foreign Office spokesman said, adding that Harvey was released following efforts between Yemen's government and tribal intermediaries.

In Yemen, a security official and a tribal leader said Harvey was released after a ransom was paid to kidnappers. 

Other tribal leaders said that he was held by militants linked to al-Qaeda.
