Florida: Judge Upholds $2.6 Million Judgment in Incapacitation of Kansas Wife, Mother, 33

According to The Insurance Journal and The Daytona Beach News-Journal, a Volusia County (FL) judge upheld a $2.6 million dollar judgment to Erin Joynt, 33, a Kansas tourist, who was run over by a truck driven by a 21-year-old county lifeguard in 2011.

Volusia County has appealed part of the judgment handed down by the jury in favor of Joynt, who was severely incapacitated in the 2011 accident.

Joynt, 33, was also awarded $500,000 for past suffering and $1.5 million for future suffering.

COMMENT:  Deputy County Attorney Larry Smith said the county may still seek a reduction in other amounts.

Joynt attorney John Phillips said he will seek a speedy resolution.
