Indonesia: Update--Mother of Daughter, Boyfriend Killed as a Result of Blunt-Force Trauma

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, an autopsy has revealed, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) murdered in Bali early last week died from asphyxiation after a blunt-force blow to her nose blocked her airway, an autopsy has revealed.

The head of forensic medicine at Bali’s Sanglah Morgue said another blow from an as-yet unidentified weapon had also smashed one of the vertebrae in former Chicago resident Sheila Von Weise-Mack’s, 62, neck.

According to The Jakarta Globe, the autopsy revealed that Weise-Mack died between when she was last seen on CCTV footage at the five-star St Regis Bali hotel at about 0300 hours and 0800 hours on Tuesday (August 12). 

Other injuries to the victim's left arm were consistent with trying to defend herself from the blows of her assailants.

COMMENT: Head of Denpasar police Djoko Hari Utomo said the FBI were in Bali to "expedite the police investigation and serve as a conduit to any leads that might be developed in the US."

If convicted of the death of Shelia Von Weise-Mack, daughter Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend, Tommy Schafer, 21, face death by firing squad.
