Syria: Kidnapped US Citizen Peter Theo Curtis, Previously Held by al-Qaeda, Now Safe Outside Syria

According to The Associated Press, the Obama Administration says a US hostage held hostage for about two years by an al-Qaeda-linked group in Syria has been released, although no information was provided as to the circumstances leading to the American's status.

The Obama Administration identified the man as Peter Theo Curtis of Massachusetts.

National Security Adviser Susan Rice says Curtis is now safe outside of Syria.

COMMENT: US Secretary of State John Kerry says Curtis was held by an al-Qaeda-linked militant group fighting the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The news comes days after IS posted a web video depicting the beheading of James Foley, 40, a US journalist who was kidnapped in 2012 while covering the Syrian uprising.
