Bermuda: Cruise-Ship Passenger, 63, Swimming in Shallow Water, Dies When Wave Knocks Her Over

According to The Royal Gazette, a cruise ship passenger from the US has died after developing breathing difficulties while swimming at Horseshoe Bay, police said on Thursday (September 18).

Ruth Birtwell, 63, of Ashford, CT was in shallow water on Thursday afternoon when she was struck by a wave that knocked her over.
COMMENT:  As most of our readers know, I always urge senior citizens to have a thorough medical examination before embarking on any trip abroad to ensure that there no "medical flags" exist.

Apparently, in Birtwell's case, there was a health issue that had not been stabilized.
Birtwell was promptly rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was pronounced dead at 1400 hours.
An autopsy is scheduled.
Police offered condolences to Birtwell’s family and friends.
