South Africa: Getting Raped is Bad Enough! Getting Justice Involves Raising the Bar EVEN Higher!

According to http://www.iol.co.za, the case involving the kidnapping of a Norwegian student at gunpoint on Signal Hill last year has stalled over plea-bargaining negotiations:

On Monday (September 8), Shamiel Alexander, Shafiek Samsodien, Wafiek Buffkins and Lincoln Bester appeared in the Cape Town Regional Court facing charges of rape, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm after the attack on the Norwegian and a male friend on April 6, 2013.
The pair were robbed at gunpoint of their cellphones, money and jewelry. Worse the woman victim was repeatedly raped.
Alexander and Samsodien allegedly bought the stolen cellphones and were arrested three months after the attack.

COMMENT:  Please see my posting on this case:

Violent crime has escalated dramatically throughout South Africa of late.

My personal recommendation is that traveling for tourism is DISCOURAGED; business travelers should have a very focused sense of personal security awareness and a strong sense of surveillance detection.

It is outrageous that Alexander and Samsodien are on bail, but they are!
Alexander and Samsodien are on bail, while Buffkins and Bester remain in custody.
The court heard that negotiation involving Buffkins and Bester had stalled.
On Monday the State asked that the matter be postponed as a decision needed to be made by the directorate of public prosecutions as to whether or not the matter should be sent to the high court.
A postponement would give the defense time to determine whether it could be resolved in the regional court.
Presiding magistrate Mbuso Msingaphantsi ruled that the matter be postponed until September 29.
