According to The Associated Press, three German photojournalists have been arrested in southeastern Turkey while covering Kurdish protests against IS militants.
A German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Sunday (October 12) that the three freelance photographers had been arrested by Turkish police.
The spokeswoman said the German Embassy was in contact with the three German citizens and local authorities who were attempting to "clarify the situation."
The Embassy spokeswoman spoke on the condition of anonymity because she wasn't authorized to have her name used for attribution.
COMMENT: The three reporters were arrested Saturday (October 11) in Diyarbakir and one of them, Kietzmann, had also tweeted concerning their detention.
Protests against IS onslaught on the Kurdish town of Kobane in Syria turned violent in Turkey last week and resulted in several deaths.
